Did you know that the Detroit Zoo has over volunteers that donate over 100,000 hours of service a year, and that my grandfather is one of them? Today I went to the Detroit Zoo with my whole family, and I felt like I got the VIP treatment because my grandfather is one of the hardworking volunteers there!
The new Polk Penguin exhibit was stunning! There was walls upon walls of information, pictures, and other statistics on the penguins and exhibitions made down to Antarctica. At the exhibit they had King Penguins, Macaroni Penguins, Gentoo Penguins, and Southern Rockhopper Penguins. I hadn’t stayed and looked for too long, but I could easily spot three out of the four kinds of penguins in the exhibit, thanks to the giant glass walls.
The ground hog exhibit was very fun, me and my little brothers got to play pop up in the little “holes”. I didn’t get to snag a picture, but there was one ground hog who looked to be collecting material to make a nest. Darn.
The Detroit Zoo is not the largest in the world, but going there I got the feeling of quality over quantity. Every exhibit was clean and very well maintained, and I got to see the animals up close and personal at almost every exhibit. I am going to have to visit the Detroit Zoo once again when I come back to Michigan!
