Slovakia Day 31 – Invalid Money

Yesterday, I was talking about how I was worried that I would not be able to relax for quite a while, and I must admit I was wrong. I believe that this morning I made the right choice to not go on a very special trip, simply because I think it would have been too much for me. Even though I still had to go to school, I feel like I was able to take a day off, and not really worry about anything. Let me tell you about this trip I missed.

It was planned, that I would borrow a bike from a classmate for this trip that was arranged. I am not sure about the details of it, but I know that we would have ridden for about 15km. However, for me to get the bike, it would have been a huge ordeal, and I decided this morning to take a break and not worry about anything. I text my friend that I won’t be picking up the bike from his place, and I go to school. The thing is, most of my classmates went on this trip, so I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

Normally, to find out what I do for classes and whatnot I just ask my classmates, for the reason that I do not have a reliable schedule. What I mean by this is that the teachers can sometimes just not show up and we will not have class that day. Or the teacher will be too lazy to walk very far and decided to just have to class in the nearest empty classroom. Today however, none of my classmates were around so I was in a bit of a predicament. I tried to find my class teacher and ask her what I was supposed to do, but I soon found out that she was sick today. Go figure. Eventually after asking around they decided to put me in another class for the day II.A. They were fantastic to me, and it was interesting to get to know other students outside of my class.

Once school got out, I quickly stopped by the house to change my clothes, and I ran down to the mall. I have been very bored the past few days, and I have needed something to do in class. Normally, I would review my Slovak book/dictionary, however I have finally completed it to my satisfaction. I went to the bookstore in the mall, checked out and as I was walking out of the store a woman who I assume was the manager stopped me. At first she started to speak to me in Slovak, but once she understood that I had no idea what she was saying she told me in broken english that my money was invalid. This was slightly concerning, and I began to consider the thought that the ATM that I had just withdrawn the cash from might have had fake bills. Fortunately, that was not the case. Apparently they overcharged me for it, and not only gave me the overcharged money back, they also gave me a slight discount. It’s little things like that, that will bring me back to shop again.

Not much really happened today, though tomorrow I plan on checking out something quite interesting. What will it be? You will have to check back tomorrow to find it, but trust me, it will be interesting. Anyway, let’s wrap this up. Today’s word of the day is:

Som uplne mrtvy – I’m dead tired

I believe it is pronounced the same in English, but this was me all day yesterday!
