Slovakia Day 55 – Online Ordering a Baseball Bat

Today I was able to play baseball for the first time in months. The sound of a ball cracking on a wooden bat is something that I have been longing. The crisp noise of a ball landing on a leather glove is something that has been teased to me in the past few weeks, but I was not able to really hear it to it’s true potential until today. And this all started with me breaking a stick with a tennis ball.

Last week, I went up the mountain Urpin with my classmates (you can read about it in this post), and while we were there we played a game. Originally we were supposed to just throw a tennis ball back and forth, but my American side got the better of me and I set out looking for a stick. Unfortunately after I found one, it wasn’t long until I broke it while batting. However, in the short amount of time that my class and I were playing, some of them caught that feeling of baseball ecstasy. So much so, that my good friend Peter went online looking for a baseball bat.

My friend tells me today, that we are going to be going after school to pick up a baseball bat that he ordered online. I was surprised, as he had only ordered it yesterday, but apparently that is the magic of living in a small country; you are never too far from a warehouse. Once we arrived at the store, we waited in line for about 5 minutes, then we finally got to see the beauty. I believe this is the bat that he had ordered, and even though it is a smaller cheaper bat, we had literally hours of fun. I had so much fun that right after he left I went to the same online store and ordered one for myself. They claim it will arrive tomorrow morning, so I am fairly excited.

Now I have already thrown a ball around with some of the local apartments kids here, but it has been months since I was last able to really let loose. However, with a bigger kid to play with I was not afraid to wail the ball. Don’t worry, I gave him proper instruction and a glove to use, although he did catch it right in the palm of his hand a few times. He learned not to do that pretty quickly.

Anyway, I am going to wrap it up for today, I wanted to get a clear and nice post out for today. I am going to apologize for yesterday’s post, I don’t even remember writing it. The interesting thing about this kind of writing, is that you never know what I might write for the day. It could be a masterpiece, worthy of many prizes, or it could be something a 1st grader could have written. Either way, I am going to stay true to my word and keep on writing.

Today’s word of the day is:

Okno – Window

Pronounced the same in English, I am going to have to take a picture of the windows here one day. They are a feat of modern engineering.
